Maybelline Color Show Nail Lacquer Holographic Collection

Yes, I know...I've been a bad blogger...but, my mommy duties have me on the softball field nearly every night since May. Not even kidding. Which means less no time for blogging. Hence why I am showing you these a few weeks later than planned. Oops.

This summer, Maybelline launched two new Color Show collections: Holographic and Polka Dots (which will be featured in an upcoming post). There's been so much hype about these since the first few teases, that I couldn't wait to see what the fuss was all about.

Holographic nail polish lovers will rejoice...or not. Let me explain. The only thing really holo about them, is the silver holo band on the cap (can you see on the pic above?). The description of the collection on Maybelline Canada's website says that the "nail effects shift from shade to shade depending on the angle". To me it sounds like these were meant to be duochromes...yes? Nonetheless, they are totally worth checking out. They go on easily with minimum brush strokes. The formula does spread evenly on the nail, leaving it with a nice, smooth appearance.  

Blue Blaze, Alluring Rose, Mystic Green, Lavendar Lustre, Bold Gold

My nails are in really bad shape these days (tried to do a few nail swatches and I think I will pass....my softball mommy hands are not that cute to look at right now after yet, another tournament) so I am re-directing you to this link for pretty nail swatches of all the Holographic shades. 

Lavendar Lustre is the one I liked the least out of the 4 I have. My favorite one is Blue Blaze. If you follow me on Instagram, you have seen this shot already (shown 3 coats).

Overall for me, this is a fun collection to add to your polish box if you love metallics. If not, I'd say skip! 
And definitely SKIP  if what you are looking for are holographics...although the band on the cap is kinda pretty to look at...

Maybelline Color Tattoo Pure Pigments Review and Swatches

Good news pigment lovers! Maybelline has expanded its Color Tattoo line and introduced the Color Tattoo Pure Pigments for summer 2013 (is that cheering I hear?!). 

I have been a huge fan of Maybelline Color Tattoo cream eyeshadows since day 1 (which are amazeballs! Truly one of my makeup bag must-have. I have already repurchased Bad to the Bronze, my favourite of the bunch...so far! Just bought three of the new LE summer shades....stay tuned for swatches), so I couldn't wait to see if these pigments truly were Color Tattoo line worthy. 

First, let's take a look at what the Maybelline's website tells us:

Double-dipped pigments create intense eyeshadow colour intensity. Superior staying power (up to 24 hr), for crease-proof wear all day long. Explosive pure pigments in a crease-proof formula.

Wear time : Granted, I always take off my makeup at night, so I can't really comment on their 24 hr claim, but happy to report that they do last 10hr + (all day wear for me) worn with eye primer or over a Color Tattoo cream eyeshadow. 

Formula : Pigmentation rocks for most shades. A shame that the line didn't include more matte shades (I think the only semi-matte shade is the royal blue one called Brash Blue). Some shades are rather sheer (for example, there is nothing potent about Potent Purple worn on its own, and Buff & Tuff is just chunky glitter in a very sheer nude shade), but for the most part, pigmentation is great and colours are fun and vibrant. 

I did play around with them a lot before writing this and, even though the sheerness of a few had left me bummed out, I was happy to see that they looked a lot better over a cream eyeshadow or applied wet vs dry (HUGE difference in colour payoff!).

On to swatches! I have received 4 for review and bought 2 more shades.

Verdict:


Even though not all shades wowed me (I'd skip Buff & Tuff), I still think these are definitely worth adding to your makeup bag if you love pigments (Never Fade Jade will be a definite must for Fall, you can even use it as a liner with a little bit of mixing medium). At the budget friendly price of $8.99 CAD, these are a great bang for your buck.

I have heard a whisper...and fallen in love!

Maybelline recently came out with a new line of lipsticks/lip balm hybrids. I must say I am totally on board with the trend toward more comfortable, hydrating lipsticks! Finally, the beauty world has heard our pleas! Needless to say, I couldn't wait to try these new Color Whisper...because Maybelline is totally right...sometimes a whisper is better than a shout!

The formula is very creamy, but not heavy on the lips (or too slick). They are on the sheer side, but the colour is buildable, which I LOVE! A light sweep on the lips will give you just a veil of colour (aka no need for a mirror to apply...did I just hear you go "woo hoo!"? Oh no wait, that was totally me!), but if you reapply a few coats, you get a gorgeous shiny lip. 

Because these are a cross between a lipbalm and a lipstick, you do have to reapply often (staying power is not that great) but if that means not having to deal with a drying formula (and flaky lips...so not cute), I am all for reapplying!

In a nutshell, lightweight lip products that can give off a range of colors depending on how much you build them up. Non-drying, comfortable to wear, moisturizing and all over good for your lips (they smell good too). If you are as big of a lipstick junkie as I am, these will quickly become a staple in your makeup bag...until the next lip innovation comes out that is (said in my best lipstick addict voice). Get one, you will want them all. Consider yourself warned.

Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids Swatches and Review

When Spring comes I love to wear bright hues on my lips. No...wait....scratch that...what am I saying? I love to wear bold lips ALL the time!

And I think I have found the boldest hues EVER from the drugstore (to this day anyway): the new Color Sensational Vivids by Maybelline!

Highly pigmented - 2 swipes and opaque coverage is achieved. Great staying power, but be careful as the darkest shades tend ot stain (On Fire Red is still on my arm). The formula is lovely: cream finish, and on my uber picky lips they are not drying. 

Here I am wearing On Fire Red #895. My new favorite bright red (if you follow me on Instagram, you have seen this picture before as it's currently my avatar).

p.s. Eyeliner I am wearing on the picture is the new Maybelline Master Duo in Black Lacquer.

Overall- I am in LOVE! The colours are outstanding! If you are not a nude lip only kinda gal, then you definitely need to give these a try!

Maybelline Color Sensational High Shine

Maybelline recently came out with a new range of insanely pigmented lip glosses - the Color Sensational High Shine.


I was a little bit weary about testing them out (let's be honest, we are among friends after all). I have tried many Color Sensational lipsticks and I am not a fan of the formula. The only shade I will grab for (out of the 6 I own) is Born With It. But, I have to say, these are truly a ''beauty find of the month'' for me.

-non-sticky (love!)
-The shine effect makes your lips appear fuller.
-Comfortable to wear, they don't dry out your lips
-No need to apply lipstick underneath, they are pigmented enough to wear on their own (great for busy moms!).
-Sleek packaging with a great doe foot applicator. The slant in the tip makes all the difference ladies!

Gleaming Grenadine, Iced Chocolate, Raspberry Reflections

Iced Chocolate has become my go-to "throw it on and forget it" shade when I am short on time. It's perfect to go with a smokey eye too.

Price point is great. They can be found at your closest drugstore and the formula is, in general, amazing! Most of these are 1-coaters.
Très abordables. Ils peuvent être trouvés à votre pharmacie la plus proche. La formule est géniale, pour la plupart des teintes; dans la majorité des cas, 1 seule couche suffit.

And oh my, how dare I, but yes...it's a pedicure shot! I am not someone who is particularly fond of foot pics, but paired up with a gorgeous pair of shoes it's not so bad...right?
Et, oh là là...mais oui...une photo d'orteils! Je ne suis pas fan de se montrer les pieds mais bon, avec une belle paire de chaussures ça passe...non?

Ma nouvelle trouvaille beauté! La Dream Fresh BB de Maybelline avec FPS 30! 
My new beauty find! The Dream Fresh BB by Maybelline with SPF 30!

Sa texture (ainsi que sa couvrance) est très légère. Donc ne pensez pas qu'en achetant la BB Dream Fresh vous vous procurez une BB dans le style des BB asiatiques, car vous serez déçues. Je l'appellerais plus un ''voile teinté bon pour la peau"!
Coverage is not the greatest but it has a very light texture which I love. Friendly warning here, don't think that by getting this one you are getting the equivalent of an Asian BB Cream because you will be disappointed. It's more like a "good for your skin tinted veil".

Light Sheer Tint - Clair , Medium/Deep Sheer Tint - Moyen/Foncé

C'est quand même un baume beauté à multi-actions. Ce qui m'a vendu: ma peau mixte l'aime et elle offre une protection solaire FPS 30!

But I promise things will slow down some (or something will have to be done because my blogging keeps me sane, and without it well you will have one cranky Mel on your hands! ha ha).

Je n'ai presque pas le temps de suivre ma routine de soins de peau (je sais...crime de blogueuse beauté!), encore moins de blogger autant que je voudrais! Je vous promet que les choses vont ralentir prochainement et que vous verrai des nouveaux articles plus souvent! (Il le faut car sinon je vais devenir folle. Bloguer c'est comme mon journal, vital!).

Today I decided to tell you about my loves of the moment. These products need to be tried. I promise a love affair.
J'ai donc décidé aujourd'hui de vous parler de mes produits coup de coeur du moment. Essayez-les. Je vous promet une belle histoire d'amour!

1- Mary Kay Canada after-sun replenishing gel/gel régénérateur après soleil
My lifesaver (or skin-saver I should say) after the sunburn I got over the weekend. It feels amazing on lobster red skin.
Ce produit m'a vraiment sauvée (la peau) après mon coup de soleil ce week-end. Ça fait tellement du bien!

2- Maybelline Dream Nude Airfoam foundation/fond de teint (sorry pic heavy/ok rafale de photos!)
Perfect for summer. Light to medium coverage so doesn't feel heavy on the skin. The mousse texture is interesting but makes it hard to control how much product actually comes out. Formula contains slight shimmers (see last pic) to give you a hint of glow so if you prefer a matte foundie, stay away.
Le fond de teint parfait pour l'été. Couvrance légère à moyenne et on ne la sent pratiquement pas sur la peau. La texture en mousse est intéressante mais rend le contrôle de la quantité de produit qu'on applique difficile. La formule est légèrement scintillante pour vous donner un effet radieux (voir dernière photo). Si vous êtes de celles qui préférez une peau matte, ce fond de teint n'est pas pour vous.

3- Annabelle Dragonnette Studio Pigment Eye Shadow/ombre Studio Pigment
Bright teal shade. Love wearing this one as a liner! Paired up with peach, bronze or gold, it looks stunning!
Teinte de turquoise hyper vibrante! J'adore la porter en traceur. Combinée avec une ombre pêche, bronze ou encore dorée l'effet est super joli!

Shade is a tad darker in real life/la teinte est un peu plus foncée qu'elle apparaît sur la photo.

4- Mac Gold Mode pigment
One of my favorite Mac pigments. As with all Mac pigments, it's highly pigmented and smooth. Love love this one. It's my go to, just have to throw a wash of it on my lid, add mascara and I am good to go! Side note: it looks stunning with a deep purple in the crease.
Un des pigments Mac préférés. Comme tous les pigments Mac, il est très pigmenté et soyeux. Je l'adore. C'est mon ''go to'' quand je suis pressée...je l'applique sur toute la paupière mobile et avec un mascara je suis prête à partir! Note: en combinaison avec une teinte de mauve foncé dans le creux de l'oeil/v externe...HOT!

5- Victoria Secrets Sheer Fragrance Mist/Brume parfumée Girl's Night (flirty peony and waterlilly)
My go to daytime summer fragrance. Bought it in California after getting a whiff of it off of my cousin's arm ;) Smells sultry and feminine. Love it!
Ma fragrance de jour d'été favorite. Je l'ai acheté en Californie après l'avoir senti sur le bras de ma cousine :) Ça sent sexy et ultra-féminin. Un coup de coeur!

6-Marcelle BB Cream/BB Crème
My favorite BB Cream. Medium coverage. I use a flat kabuki brush to apply (my personal preference). I still need concealer under my eyes but it instantly gives me a fresh radiant look to my skin. It does have a slight smell but it doesn't linger and doesn't bother me one bit. I love that it's hypo-allergenic and paraben free. The only thing missing to this product is SPF. But Marcelle is coming out with a version with SPF in July (and also a BB powder that I am super stoked about!). I cannot wait to try them!
Ma BB préférée! Bonne couvrance. Je l'applique au kabuki plat. J'ai tout de même besoin d'utiliser mon cache-cernes mais elle me donne un effet bonne mine instantanné que j'adore! Elle a une petite senteur c'est vrai, mais la senteur s'évapore rapidement et elle me dérange nullement. J'adore qu'elle soit hypo-allergène et  sans parabènes. La seule chose qui lui manque est un FPS mais Marcelle lance sa version avec FPS en Juillet...Yay! (et une BB poudre aussi qui a piqué ma curiosité!!!). Très hâte de les essayer!!

7-Burts Bees lemon cuticule butter/beurre pour cuticules
A must for your nails. I have repurchased this a few times and can't live without it. Thick balm you apply on cuticles. Smells like lemon.
Un produit que j'ai acheté et ré-acheté. Je l'adore. Un essentiel pour les ongles! Un baume assez épais qu'on applique sur les cuticules. Il sent le citron.

8- Dermaglow SPF 70 sunscreen/écran solaire
Non-greasy texture. Only thing: I wish the tube was bigger. On the other hand, this fits nicely into your purse. No more excuses to not reapply throughout the day ladies.
Texture non-huileuse. Le seul point négatif: le tube n'est pas très gros. D'un autre côté, son format permet de le glisser aisément dans le sac à mains. Plus d'excuses de ne pas réappliquer!

9- Cristalliste Kérastase Lait Cristal Revitalisant/Conditionner
Good thing I had this in hand this weekend after spending 3 days in and out of the pool and in the sun during the tournament. My hair was fried thanks to Mr. Sun and the chlorine from the pool (yes hair can fry too under the sun so very important to give your locks a little bit of TLC after this much abuse!). A true fountain of youth for my hair! And it smells delicious. I HIGHLY recommend this...even though it's on the pricy side. Treat yourself ladies, I promise you won't regret.
Une chance que je l'avais avec les 3 jours de baignade de ce week-end durant le tournoi!! Mes cheveux étaient vraiment en mauvais état à cause du chlore et du soleil (oui des cheveux ça cuit aussi comme la peau donc bien important de leur donner un peu d'amour après tant d'abus). Une cure de rajeunissement pour les cheveux. Il sent tellement bon en plus! Je le recommande FORTEMENT. Même si le prix n'est pas ''budget friendly''. Gâtez-vous, je vous le dis vous ne le regretterez pas!

10- Mac Hibiscus lipstick/rouge à lèvres
Yes I know, an LE collection (from last year). Very sorry beauties. I just love it so much (it's my second tube of it!). Ok so let's just say any coral creme lipstick. It's my IT colour this season!
Oui je sais...une collection en édition limitée (de l'année passée). Désolée!! Mais je l'adore! C'est mon 2 ième tube de cette teinte.On va donc dire tout rouge à lèvre corail fini crème! Ma couleur IT cette année!


11- Clarins Rouge Prodige Rosy Coral Lipstick/rouge à lèvres
Yes another coral! I told you it was my IT shade this season. I love the finish of these lipsticks...like a gloss. They are on the sheer side but you can build up the colour. And the tube...oh my! (yes the packaging junkie talking here). How can you not fall in love with these lipsticks? This one is still available. I got it off of Murale :)
Un autre corail...je vous ai dit que c'était ma couleur IT de la saison! J'adore son fini gloss. Il n'est pas très opaque mais on peut travailler l'intensité en ajouter des couches. Le tube est une beauté en plus (oui le packaging junkie qui parle). Celui-ci est encore dispo. Je me le suis procurer chez Murale récemment.

Neon yellow nails with Ardene and Maybelline- Ongle jaune néon avec Ardene et Maybelline!

Neon is one of the big trends this season. There is just something about neon yellow nails that just screams SUMMER!!!
Le néon est une des tendances top cette saison. Vous ne trouvez pas que les ongles jaunes néon font vraiment ÉTÉ!!!??? J'adore!!

So, I decided I want to have neon nails too. But, having nothing else close by (aside from pharmacies...but no neons) I ran to Ardene this weekend and grabbed their version of Neon Yellow polish. Big let down...HUGE...I will talk to you about that in a sec.
Donc, j'ai décidé que moi aussi je voulais des ongles ÉTÉ!! Mais, étant donné qu'aux alentours je n'ai que pharmacies (pas de néons...moche) et Ardene....et bien c'est là que je me suis dirigée à la course pour aller me chercher un vernis jaune néon. Grosse déception...GROSSE...je vous en parle dans un instant.

For the accent nail (and also because I fell in love with this Color Show shade) I chose Fuchsia Fever by Maybelline NY.
Pour mon ongle-accent (et car je suis complètement tombée en amour avec cette teinte de la ligne Color Show) j'ai choisi Fuchsia Fever de Maybelline NY.

2 coats on each finger...see how crazy sheer the neon yellow is!/deux couches sur chaque doigt...le jaune néon est tellement transparent!

After 2 coats of Maybelline Color Show in Fuchsia Fever and 5...yes FIVE coats of Ardene Neon Yellow (who has time for 5 coats? See what I mean when I say huge let down? Because after 5 coats it's still not opaque!).
Après deux couches de Maybelline Color Show Fuchsia Fever et 5...oui j'ai dit CINQ couches du vernis jaune néon Ardene (sérieusement, qui a le temps pour 5 couches de vernis...voyez maintenant ce que je veux dire par GROSSE déception?...5 couches et il n'est même pas opaque encore!).

Needless to say, I wish the Color Show line had neon shades!
Il va sans dire que je serais aux anges si la ligne Color Show comprenait des teintes néon!

p.s. did you know that it's insanely hard to photograph neon yellow polish and have it look true to shade.
p.s. Savez-vous que c'est vraiment difficile de photographier un vernis jaune néon et qu'il est l'air jaune néon sur les photos?

MaybellineNY Color Show Denim Dash

Another LOVE! I have tweeted about these nail polishes non-stop since discovering the display at my local Walmart. I now own 5 shades. Every time I go to Walmart, I come back with a new shade. How can I not?? The formula is out of this world awesome and they only retail for $2.96!
Un autre ''Coup de Coeur''!! Je vous ai tellement cassé les oreilles sur Twitter au sujet de ces vernis à ongles depuis que je les ai découvert à mon Walmart. Je possède maintenant 5 teintes. À chaque fois que je vais chez Walmart, je reviens avec une nouvelle teinte. Comment résister?? La formule est plus que géniale et ils se vendent seulement 2.96$ chacun!

Denim Dash is one of the two ''Denims'' finish shades. Only one coat is needed to achieve opacity and it dries incredibly fast (matte finish). So for the moms out there, this is the perfect polish to use on your little ones! ;)
La teinte Denim Dash est une des deux teintes au fini ''Denims'' de la ligne. Opacité totale atteinte en une seule couche et il sèche hyper vite (fini mat). Donc, pour les mamans lectrices, c'est le vernis parfait pour faire des mani à vos petites cocottes! ;)

My daughters friends oohed and ahhed over my nails this weekend when we went swimming, so yesterday while doing my shopping, I picked up another bottle of Denim Dash and surprised our friends' daughters with it yesterday afternoon (they started applying it ON THE SPOT!). I love to make people happy!
Les amies de mes filles ont vraiment capoté quand elles ont vu mes ongles Samedi quand nous sommes allés chez elles se baigner. Alors hier, en allant faire mon magasinage, j'ai ramassé une autre bouteille de Denim Dash, et je leur ai fait une surprise! Elles étaient tellement excitées qu'elles ont commencé TOUT DE SUITE à se faire une mani! J'aime tellement faire plaisir aux autres! :) Hi hi!

Skin Care/Soins de Peau:

MaryKay Botanical Effects toner (Formula 3 for oily skin/formule pour peaux grasses).
The line contains no synthetic dyes or fragrances. I just spray on a cotton round and dab all over my face. It removes left behind dirt and residu, tightens pores and clarifies the skin.
La ligne ne contient aucune teinture synthétique ou fragrance. Un ''spray'' sur un tampon de coton rond que je tapotte ensuite sur tout le visage. Ce qu'il fait: débarasse la peau des résidus et des saletés, reserre les pores et clarifie la peau.
